Ken Robinson is big on the concept of “tribes”. We have already seen how they can provide validation to individuals and how they can inspire. They also can produce stuff that no single individual could working alone.
Ken wirtes about different examples, and my favorite is how Miles Davis assembled his tribe of great jazz musicians to do a “pop up” album called “Kind of Blue”. It is a masterpiece in how it blends together the passions of each great artist.
This happens when the tribe functions as a “team”. That is where they unite in a cause that for the moment seems larger than themselves as individuals. Benis wrote about teams long ago and he was right – they provide the ultimate creative environment.
But this is different than just being “part of a crows”, like a fan at a sporting context. What is the difference? Stay tuned! That is next!
