Brian Chesky on the Sharing Economy

A few years ago, the idea of a “sharing economy” sounded pretty farfetched. Brian Chesky and his pals, though, believed that people were ready to rent out their homes to strangers on a short term basis (like hotels do). So they pitched the idea for Airbnb to VC’s — who thought they were a bit nuts. But they were not and they are not. They just understand something about what motivates people better than the rest of us – that we want two things that we don’t get enough of: (1) to connect with people, and (2) to get more financial autonomy. And Brian thinks there is a lot more to be done in this space.
